These glorious lines of Robert Frost holds true with the Department of History, B. N. College, Patna. The Department has a chequered history and is one of the most vibrant and popular departments not only in this college but in the entire faculty of Social Sciences. The department has churned out galaxy of renowned people who have made it proud its excellence by a host of dedicated teachers who guide, support and inspire the students not only of its department but of the entire college. It is because of myriad achievements and generosity that students throng the Department to opt history as one of the main subjects. In competitive exams this subject is preferred by all and sundry. Studying History provides an ocean of opportunity to the students all over the country. Dr. B. B. Majumdar, the first Head of the Department, was an acclaimed historian. Many books and research journals of international fame have been penned by him. Infact, he laid the solid foundation of the Department and was a source of inspiration for others. Later on his son Dr. B. P. Majumdar, another erudite scholar of History, became the Head of the Department. Really, a worthy son of a worthy father. He then moved to the University Department of History, Darbhanga House, as the Head. Dr. Yuvaraj Prasad, who was the teacher in this Department in the 70’s, is a renowned scholar who frequently travelled abroad to present his research paper on different occasions. He later became the Director, A. N. Sinha Institute, Patna and the University Head of History Department. Other noted and exemplary teachers of the Department include Dr. G. L. Sharma, Dr. A. Rashid, Dr. B. B. Sinha, Dr. T. P. L. Das, Dr. Ram Bhushan Singh, Dr. Nawal Kishore Prasad Sinha, Dr. Shiva Chandra Singh and Dr. Pramod Kumar Poddar. Dr. P. K. Poddar is presently the Head of the Department and has to his credit number of research articles and has supervised scores of research scholars for the award of Ph.D. degree.

The Department boasts of its teaching and research and provide infrastructure facilities such as computer and internet. A slew of alumnus of this Department frequently visit the college and the experience of good old memories are palpable on their satisfying face.
