National Service Scheme

Students of Bihar National College, Patna get exposed to the social and economic problems of the society in the neighbourhood community through the extension activities conducted by the college. This leads to their holistic development. The Bihar National College is well known for producing leaders. Many of the college alumni and faculty members have become political leaders and hold a significant post in the government.

Our college is a constituent unit of Patna University and follows the curriculum provided by the University. The primary objective of the curriculum is that it has to be outcome-based education (OBE). Faculty actively participates in the curriculum and syllabus design in the academic council of Patna University. The faculty of the college complete the syllabus on time. Social awareness and community service are taught in the students through various NSS activities. Academic flexibility and bridging the gap between curriculum and industry is achieved through seminars and various speeches from the people from the industry. Self employability is encouraged by conducting entrepreneurship development programmes, and well-designed curriculum of value-added training programme caters student’s and industry’s needs. Well-structured feedback system from all stake holders is maintained to identify these values added training programmes. Graduate attributes like ethics, team spirit and leadership, are inculcated through curriculum delivery and value-added programmes.



NSS

Periodical visits: The NSS volunteers of the institution periodically visit the slum areas of the city to educate them. They highlight the problems and try to bring them to the mainstream of society.

NSS organizes several tours and visits.

Problem solving skills: For instance, NSS students organize several activities.

The NSS of the college actively takes part in various activities organized by the government. The college has earned a reputation for being an established institution of higher education with high regard for social responsibility in the region. The extension activities are integral to UG teaching at the college. Engagement of students in these activities is the first window to observe life closely at the grassroots. They become sensitive to the challenges of a developing society like ours and observe the inequities and the challenges they pose towards the development potential of people. The students of NSS are regularly engaged in the cleaning drive of Ganges River. The students of the college actively take part in the blood donation camp and health camp. Students are encouraged to participate in the awareness programmes like hazards created by plastics in the environment and the need for cleanliness in human welfare. The students were involved in cleaning the campus under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and also to aware students about how to fight back diseases. The institute involves the faculty and students in community work. This helps the students to learn ethical values and understand their responsibilities, and develop as good citizens. These extension activities influence the students, their understanding of the problems in the rural and urban areas of the state, the various policies of the government or the society and their impact on human life are brought to the perception of the students. They are encouraged to participate in various community development programs to develop their all-round personality.
