Department of sociology B. N. College Patna Dr. Bindeshwar Prasad Mandal is the present head of the department. He took over the charge of headship in the year 01-02- 2006 Dr. S. M Raj professor department of sociology B. N. college became the principal of the B. N. college three teachers Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Dr. Dharamshila prasad and Dr. Vijay Kumar Lal Were taken over the charge as the head of the post graduate department of sociology Patna University Patna . Dr. Dharamshila Prasad later became the principal of Patna college and Magadh Mahila College.
Department of sociology B. N. College has offering the three years degree courses to impart the theoretical and methodological knowledge in the various branches of sociology in order to play a significant role in the society that wishes to bring about planned change.
Department encourages the students to participate in various co-curricular activities like sports NCC, NSS, seminars, slogan writing, poster making related to some social issues are some of the regular activities of the department.
Tutorial classes are conducted by the department.
Three students Saurav Kumar session 2014-17, Shubham Shukla session 2015-18 and Sonam Singh station 2016-19 became the gold medalist in the subject of sociology in three year degree course B. A. Hons in Sociology.

Syllabus of 3 year degree course in Sociology consists the eight different branches of sociology in B. A. part-1, B. A. part-2, B. A. part-3.
These branches are number 1. principle of sociology, 2. social Anthropology, 3. Social Research, 4. History of Social Thoughts, 5. Rural Sociology, 6.Urban Sociology, 7.Social Change, and 8. Social Problems.
