INTRODUCTION:
BCA Department was established in 1999 to cater for the needs of students interested in Computer Science and Application. The department provides one of the best centre in the Bihar for undergraduate education in Computer Application. It provides three, years Bachelor Courses in Computer Application. Department provides Honours degree in Computer Application. Degree are awarded by Patna University, Patna. Department has a well Computer Lab, Library. AIM AND SCOPE:
The department aims to provide high quality education to student through the latest in Computer Technology. Computer professionals constitute the most important segment of work force of any organization. Successful participant of the course can establish his/her own software: Electronic Data processing and Training Centre. They will also be able to work for the companies specializing in training, development, marketing of computer hardware. The department has good records, many students were placed in various companies and MNC's like Wipro, TCS, ITC etc.

GENERAL PROFILE OF THE COLLEGE:
Bihar National College, a constituent unit of Patna University, was established in the year 1889. It is one of the biggest and oldest multi-faculty colleges of the state imparting degree level teaching in almost all the subjects of Arts and Science and upto post graduate level in some selected subjects. The is most centrally located in Patna occupying an area of approximately 2.5 acres of land containing separate blocks for different science departments viz Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Statistics, Central Library, Administrative blocks besides a large seminar hall and other facilities. Financially the college is covered under Patna University Budget.

ABOUT THE COURSE:
The Course was opened on the basis of notification no. PU. 23 / 94-82 GS(I) / OSD related to ordinance for admission of students to B.A / B.Sc. (Vocational) Honours course at Patna University and proposed amendment in B.A / B.Sc. (Vocational) Three-years Hons. Course ordinance & regulation vide letter no.- P.U. 11 / 2003-477 / Chancellor’s secretariat {I}, dated 9.4.2003.

Certificate of Accreditation dated May 03, 2004 by National Assessment and Accreditation Council: (An autonomous institution, of the University Grants Commission) Declaring B.N. College as Accredited at the B** level. The certification is valid for a period of five years with effect from May 03, 2004.

JOB-POTENTIAL OF THE COURSE:

DURATION OF COURSE :
The duration of the course will be of Three Academic Years. On successful completion of the course and passing out the requisite examinations, the student will be awarded the B.Sc. / B.A. (Vocational) Hons. Degree in Computer Application of Patna University. The examination will be conducted by the University for each year at the end of each academic session to be known as B.Sc. / B.A. (Vocational) Hons. Part-I, Part-II and Part-III Examination.

COURSE FORMAT:
Besides the main vocational subject of Computer Application, the student will be required to study two subsidiary subjects, in each of BCA, Part-I and Part-II class. No. of seats: 30 in B.Sc. (BCA) and 30 in B.A. (BCA)

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE ADMISSION TO B.Sc. / B.A. (VOCATIONAL)

COMPUTER APPLICATION COURSE:
(1) For B.Sc. Computer Application Course, a person must have passed (+2 or / Sc. Exam) with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.

(2) For BA Computer Application Course, a person must have passed I.A. / I.Sc. / I.Com Exam.(+2 level Exam.)..

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION TO THIS (VOCATIONAL) COURSE, A STUDENT MUST HAVE
(a) Passed the Intermediate Exam. of Board / University / established or incorporated by law / 12 years Course of the Central or State Board, 10+2 System or equivalent recognised by Patna University thereof securing atleast 55% in aggregate for general or other categories of applicants and 45% marks in case of candidates belonging to SC, ST & BC (Annuxure-1) only.

APPEARING CANDIDATES MAY ALSO APPLY SUBJECT TO ABOVE CONDITION AND THAT THEY WILL PRODUCE THEIR RESULT AT THE TIME, TIME OF ADMISSION
(b) Must have qualified at the written aptitude test followed by a viva-voce to be conducted by the College / Department.

APTITUDE TEST AND VIVA-VOCE EXAMINATION FOR B.Sc. / B.A. (VOCATIONAL) COMPUTER APPLICATION
Admission to B.Sc. / B.A. (Vocational) Hons. In Computer (BCA) Course shall be made on the basis of marks obtained at the aptitude test followed by viva-voce conducted by the college. Aptitude test will be of multiple choice / objective / subjective type of questions. The duration of the examination shall be of two hours.

RESERVATION

Reservation of seats for admission shall be provided, as per rules of Patna University to the successful candidates belonging to reserved categories

Note:
Candidate of reserved, categories will have to submit caste certificate issued by SDO / DM of their district with their application form. Other provisions not covered under present regulation will be governed by the regulations for B.A. / B.Sc. Hons. (Three Years Degree Course) of Patna University, Patna.

FEES:
A course fee of Rs. 11,500/- (Rupees Eleven Thousand Five Hundred Only) together with an additional fee of Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred Only) per academic session shall have to be paid by each student admitted to the course.
